I have recently started having issues with shampoo/conditioner and soaps causing extreme skin irritation. Has anyone else run into this and have you found products that will not cause such issues :?:

Hi Col,

We hear a lot of these types of stories. It might be gluten but watch out also for fragrance - fragrance allergy and sensitivity are the No. 1 cause of cosmetic flare-ups (according to dermatologist Dr. Sandy Skotnicki on our editorial board).

So a) fragrance-free b
b) If you think gluten's an issue, there are several brands of gluten-free shampoos available in places like Whole Foods Mkt and Trader Joes and other indie healthy food stores.

c) Your question is timely - the next issue of Allergic Living, which is off to press now, has a big article on gluten, cosmetics and anecdotal evidence of glutening.

One last thing, I know that Dr. Skotnicki also says if you get a bad dermatitis outbreak, drop all your personal care products and get some corticosteroid cream from your doc. Once cleared, re-intro products one at a time - to see which is causing the issue. Hope this helps! Best with..

I know this is an older topic, but I also found anything containing almond oil would irritate/burn my skin. Beware, as it can be found in liquid hand soaps too - in public places or friends' houses.

I hope you have been able to find something that works for you. We have used select Live Clean and Method products without any issue.
