Hello all.

This is my first post so bear with me.

First off, the main reason I joined this site is to see how others deal with allergies and checking out food recipes from people who actually live with allergies as oppose to medical doctors who wrote cookbooks as I find it hilarious the cook book "Freedom From Allergies" has tons of recipes with NUTS in them!!! I know you can sub stuff but still...

Again, I mostly joined to see how others deal with food allergies and shopping/cooking with food allergies in mind...if that makes any sense.

Anyway, just want to say I know how a lot of you feel, especially when it comes to food allergies as one of the main food allergies I'm allergic to is bad food additives and preservatives as well as a bunch of other things.

Here's a sample of what I'm allergic to:

Nuts
Apples
Olives
Most Food Additives and Preservatives
Sulfites
Tortilla Chips
Potato chips
Most Cheeses
Calcium Pripriodine – found in most baked goods, breads, flour tortillas, pitas, etc..
Food Colorings and Artificial Flavors
Some brand of Beer's - Heineken, etc...
Most canned foods/canned veggies
Most Soy Sauces - Tamari Sauce is okay
Potatoes/Fruit with skin on
Tropical Fruits like Mangos, Pineapple
Ice Cream
Most Crackers - Melba Toast is fine
Guar Gum, Xanthum Gum (anything with 'gum' in it)
Margarine (Very hard to find restaurants who use just butter)
Chicken with coating on it
Pre-made stocks (Beef, Chicken, etc.)
Canned Soups
Ibprofin
Pollen
Squash
Rice Wine Vinegar – All salad’s I eat without dressing
Palm Kernal Oil – Anything with the word ‘Palm’ in it
Soy Lecithin
Nitrates
Dried Fruits – Contains Natural Sulfites
Monosodium Glutamate – a.k.a. MSG
Cookies
Ketchup
Corn Syrup Solids, Corn Syrup, High Fructose Corn Syrup
Store Bought Mayonnaise
Nutmeg

So you can see why I sometimes feel trapped and hope anyone who reads this who has similar food allergies might be able to help.

:thanksign

Hi! My that's a long list. Do you think that a lot of the food you list are because of the preservatives/additives that you also list?

You must have to make a lot of food from scratch.

A lot of foods is indeed because of food additives and bad preservatives.

I do make most of my meals by scratch. It takes longer but at least I know I won't react.

I'm going to post a few recipes I've used in the cooking section as well as check out what other users have posted for interesting food recipes/meal ideas.
