Given the huge demand and concern about flying and allergies that we've seen from readers, Allergic Living has launched a write-in campaign to Air Canada and WestJet. The purpose? To urge Canada's major carriers to adopt policies of food allergy risk-reduction on their flights.

Please join the campaign, and ask your friends to as well. Access it by clicking on the blue-green "Lobby the Airlines" box on the Allergicliving.com homepage. (Top top right of the page).

If we want to persuade the airlines that risk reduction is important, they have to hear this from a lot of people. Let others know about the campaign on blogs, Facebook, by forwarding the link. Thanks for your help on this.

As we saw in the successful Food Allergen Labeling Legislation lobby hosted at this site last summer, numbers of letters can make all the difference. Thanks for your support!

If you have any problems with the letter, contact Josh at info@allergicliving.com

Thanks Lisa. We're just getting the launch started.

AL will send out news of the campaign tomorrow with its new NewsReport. We also have sent out a national news release to the media.

The best help for us is spreading the word.

If you know of friends and colleagues who would be interested, let them know. You certainly don't have to have food allergies to understand the airlines f.a. issue and be willing to send along a letter. Also, the Internet is a great way to spread news. If you're on other sites, blogs, where people might have interest, do let them know the campaign link.

Please feel free to share any good ideas (as you had with the food label law campaign) for increasing participation. The airlines may take some serious persuading.

I just sent a letter, and will be sure to send a request to everyone on my email contact list, asking them to write in. We are flying West Jet at the end of the month and I am crossing my fingers that there will be no problems.

Wow, when I wrote mine we were only at 19!
People have been busy this evening.
IThis is how I explained the feeling of travelling in a plane when nuts are served.
Quote:
Epi-Pens give precious time to seek medical attention. At best the can afford 20 minutes. Can you imagine being on an overseas flight with 20 minutes of fuel? That's what it feels like ...I have seen that same concern on the faces of the aircrew when they realize the risk.

Just posted this on my Facebook page, Gwen, so people on my list will get a chance to click on a link. This is a fantastic initiative, and something my Mom has called and complained about on my behalf on several occasions without success. Strength in numbers!! :)

Keep up the momentum! We've had 659 letters have been sent so far!
I've posted this on Facebook, e-mailed all of my friends and of course, sent my letter.

I'm going to ask my daughters day care if I can post a copy of the web page on the bulletin board where parents sign in/out. We see the allergist today and I'll bring a copy to his office, too!

Oh that reminded me, I will be posting a notice at my aunt's daycare. Daycares are great places and I know that there are a lot of allergic kids there so I'm sure the parents will be interestd...
