I've always been anxious about leaving DS at parties, and so during preschool ones I would stay. The first time I left (and only for a short time) he was given peanut butter, which lead to us finding out about his anaphylaxis.

He'll be going into Kindergarten this year, and I'm sure there will be lots of parties. I can't see leaving him, but even as a 3 & 4 year old I was often the only parent there.

It really depends on the host parent's comfort level. If the host parent seems overwhelmed or nervous after I have gone over all the allergy info with them, I will definitely stay put. If the host parent seems completely comfortable with it, then I leave my cell # with them and leave the party for a short while. I still get very nervous, though, but I make sure that I can be reached at a moments notice.
I also pack all my son's food... he is allergic to eggs (no cake), as well as potatoes (no chips), and tomatoes (no pizza), as well as many other things. I go over the menu with the host parent well in advance so I know exactly what foods to send to the party. I make cakes without eggs, pizza without tomato sauce, and send along cheezies or popcorn twists.
Given all my son's allergies, the host parent is often relieved that I am there... just in case.

So far I've always stayed.
