Talking Allergies

Hello! I'm new so I hope this is the right place ...

We have weekend custody of a 3rd grader who is allergic to chalk. One thing she really wants to do is draw with sidewalk chalk outside. I'm not crafty and unlikely to make my own, do any companies sell non allergic "chalk" for this??

Try using paint instead. The water based kind would probably come of with a hose, or after the next big rain.

What a challenge! I am not sure what component of "chalk" the child is allergic to so this may not be helpful... I googled "home made chalk" and turned up this recipe from the following website: http://familycrafts.about.com/cs/crafty ... schalk.htm

Materials Needed:

* 1 Cup Plaster of Paris
* 1 Cup Water
* Powdered Tempera Paint

Instructions:
Find a mold for your sidewalk chalk. You can use small paper cups, toilet tissue rolls, candy molds, etc.

Mix the Plaster of Paris and the water together. For colored chalk, add powdered tempera paint to achieve the color you want. Let stand for a few minutes and then pour into mold.

Set side and let dry completely. This can take anywhere from several hours to a few days depending on the size of the mold you chose. Once dry, remove the chalk from the mold. If it is still moist, let air dry for another 24 hours.

The paint is a great idea Crayola also makes some washable outdoor paints now too

Oh! I'll have to look for that paint, thanks! Unfortunately, I don't know what she is allergic to. Her mother told her she was allergic to 'chalk'. And fabric softener. And other things. Sigh.

Found this recipe for sidewalk paint. Sounds easy enough!

1/4 cup cornstarch
1/4 cup cold water
6-8 drops food coloring


Mix cornstarch and cold water in a small bowl. Add food coloring and stir. Repeat these steps for every color you make. {This paint can easily be washed away with water - great for hopscotch games and make believe roads.)

My guys play "Ballon King" (French for Four-square) and I would love to be ble to paint the four-square that they need for it on the road in the front of the house.

Hello,

She would probably enjoy painting with water!! All you need is a bucket, a paint brush and voila, sidewalk art. My kids loved it when they were little!!
