We are getting ready to send Adair to daycare three days a week and although I love our daycare provider, I am a little worried and scared about it all. It will be the first time someone else has really looked after Adair since we found out about his allergies.

Any tips or pointers to make a sooth transition?

Keep the lines of communication open. Try to allow a few minutes at pick up or drop off for questions and comments on either side.

Keep a cell phone nearby. Talk about what to do if a reaction should occur. (How many kids will be there? Will the daycare provider escort the child to the hospital?)

Decide how comfortable you are with yor child eating foods prepared by the daycare provider. We sent everything except for fruit which was the snack of choice.

We had great luck with our first provider. It can be a great experience. Find out where your child will be napping. You may want to ask that they put down a clean bedspread for daycare hours (one daycare providers playroom was also her sons' TV room. she changed the sofa cover to keep dd safe from her boys snack crumbs)

Listen to your instincts. If you love this daycare provider, there's probablya good reason for it!
