Anyone notice their children's asthma had a tendency to flare up when teething?

My little one (17 months) had all those annoying teething signs including major congestion and saliva since last Thursday. She's been coughing A LOT (especially when laying down for naps or at night) for these past few days, and has had 2 minor astma attacks... Could teething/congestion be related to this? Just want to know if it could be related, or if we should look at other issues?

Thanks,

I don't remember noticing that kind of thing, but then I was always pretty out of it when the kids were little (extreme sleep deprivation) - LOL.

Could the congestion not be caused by a cold? If she is congested and coughing and having asthma attacks that would be my suspicion.

Do you have instructions on what to do with her meds (e.g. doubling them) from your doctor when she has a cold? We have gotten very aggressive (lived and learned) when our son has a cold - basically doubling his orange puffer from once in the morning to once in the morning and once at night, and not hesitating to give his blue puffer before he goes to bed and at other times. It does make a difference.

If you do not have an asthma action plan from your doc, you could see if the Lung Association has a Certified Asthma Educator in the area, if your CLSC has an asthma clinic where you can get some advice.

K.

I have found the exact same thing with our son in the past two weeks. After finally getting the night time coughing under control our son began cutting several teeth at the same time. The allergist doubled his meds and it seems to finally (after 2 weeks of no sleep for us both) have the coughing under control. Teething mimics cold like symptoms and I suppose his body responds the same way he would to a general viral cold.
I know your post is from ages ago, It is just nice to know I am not alone in dealing with such issues.
:D
