CLARIFICATION: PRODUCT CHANGE NOTIFICATION

Re: Important Notice: Quaker® Crispy Delights Cookies
Quaker® Crispy Tortillaz Corn and Rice Cakes

Recently, Pepsi-QTG Canada, the manufacturer of Quaker® brand products, made your membership aware of a production change at the U.S. manufacturing facility where Quaker Crispy Delights Cookies and Quaker® Crispy Tortillaz Corn and Rice Cakes are produced for Canada. Feedback from consumers via our Consumer Relations Department has indicated that there may be confusion about which Quaker products are affected, and we would like to clarify this for your membership.

The U.S. production facility that produces Quaker Crispy Delights Cookies and Quaker® Crispy Tortillaz Corn and Rice Cakes for Canada will be introducing a new peanut butter product in the U.S. As the addition of this new product may create a potential for contact with peanuts of our Canadian products, the packaging of our Canadian products will be changed accordingly. Both Canadian product lines will have new product packaging alerting consumers with an on package flash that these products MAY NOW CONTAIN PEANUTS, in conjunction with the addition of may contain traces of peanuts to the allergen statement.

All other Quaker Crispy Minis Rice Chips or Rice Cakes available in Canada are made in our Canadian production facility in Trenton, Ontario and are therefore not affected by the U.S. production change. As a result, those Quaker products do not carry a peanut warning on package.

PRODUCED IN THE U.S. FACILITY - MAY NOW CONTAIN PEANUTS

Flavours affected:

Quaker Crispy Delights Cinnamon Streusel
Quaker Crispy Delights Chocolaty Drizzle

Each product will have an alert appearing on all outer packaging just below the ingredient listing. The alert will also appear on all inner packaging. The new packaging will begin appearing on shelf in September 2007.

Quaker Foods Canada reminds consumers of these important tips regarding the importance of carefully reading food ingredient labels:

Food-allergic individuals and those buying for them are encouraged to read food ingredient labels at least three times: once when purchasing the item; a second time when putting the item away; and a third time just prior to serving the item.

Take steps to improve your understanding of labeling regulations and their limitations. It should never be assumed that all sizes and flavours have identical allergen profiles, so check the label every time.

Products with a may contain warning could be problematic for individuals with life-threatening food allergies. If there is a precautionary warning, it is possible that the product contains traces of the allergen.

I posted this question elsewhere too but wondered if existing packages that do not contain warnings are safe?? My guess is that they are safe but we don't eat based on guesses!

Yes, they are safe. I called Quaker & they suggested I stock up on their existing rice cakes. They said that the new ones will be labelled "May contain traces of nuts etc"
Hope that helps!
