My daughter reacted with a couple of hives to fleishmann's lactose free margarine. I don't know to what. Can anyone tell me what vegetable monodiglycerides can be made of besides soy. Its the only thing that I can see, or maybe one of the vitamins. Oh boy. I called unilever and they were no help they said that they list all comon allergens and that the contents of the monodiglycerides were proprietairy. Is that legal?

From what I can see, monodiglycerides is a common term meaning a mix of mono and diglycerides.
(source: http://books.google.ca/books?id=MccA-I5 ... #PPA522,M1 )

Common eterms are not proprietary. While the ratio of mono to diglycerides may be proprietary, the ingredients should not be.

If they are not forth comming, perhaps you should contact CFIA about a possible contamination. Fleischmman's had a recall a few years back, I wouldn't think they'd want another one.

Dd eats it all the time and hasn't reacted (she's egg/milk/peanut/tree nut/legume allergic)
I hope you find the answer.

I have contacted Unilever Canada via e-mail and had better results. They have told me that the monoglycerides are soy. So now I still don't know what she reacted to. They are going to take the margarine and have it tested, refund my money and send me coupons. Sending an e-mail worked much better than calling. I am glad to know that ingrdients are not proprietary and will never take that for an answer again.
