Today while grocery shopping I saw a may contain statement I've never run across before.
Quote:
For allergy sufferers; the oatcakes contain gluten the recipe and factory are nut free but Nairns can not guarantee their ingredients are nut free. The oatcakes are manufactured on equipment that handles milk.

Great that the milk and gluten is listed as cross contamination looks like a sure thing. But as far as the nuts may contain goes it is completely a legal cover their butt statement. So something which could be safe, is most likely safe, now I wouldn't buy as there is this huge question mark. If they have a guaranteed nut free facility I'm sure extensive testing is done on products/ingredients to ensure that this is in fact a nut free environment. So then why add the legal mumbo jumbo. Just don't advertise as a nut free facility.

Probably they haven't asked suppliers (of which there wouldn't be many) to fill in a form about whether they peanuts, nuts.

Such an easy step - yet instead they lose customers.
