While I am grateful that companies are now producing "nut-free" products, I still find it confusing when the logo on the product says "nut free" but no mention of peanuts. So unless I can find out specific info, I'm left wondering if there are peanuts in there. I know some people consider the peanut a nut, but in fact, it is a legume. To me, they are two different things. I would rather see a logo that says "peanut and nut free". It would be much clearer that way.

With Dare labelling, it's the opposite. Their peanut/nut-free products have a logo that says "peanut free" with a drawing of a peanut with a red line across it. But the product is also nut free because there is a statement on the box that says “manufactured in a nut free/peanut free facility” . So why just the peanut logo?

Chapman's has the right idea with their logo:

I totally agree. It would be in the best interest of the companies to be clear on this! Chapman's is on to something--they make good ice cream that people who are *not* allergic to would buy and they've cornered the peanut/tree nut allergic market. Seeing as nut allergies are so common and anyone eating ice cream with someone allergic to nuts would choose Chapman's I would think that Chapman's would be making quite a profit. As the word gets out, I bet we'll see more products like this.
