I just noticed that the menu at Hard Rock Cafe has a cross sign next to the menu items that contain nuts and seeds. I never really noticed the cross sign on the menus so I don't know if this a new thing. I went on line and checked some of the Cafes in Canada, Europe and the US and they all have the sign. I think I'll check out the one in my city and ask some questions. I'll let you know how knowledgeable the staff is. If anyone has been there, please post your experiences here.

In Canada, the locations are: Montreal, Toronto, Niagara Falls and Ottawa.

I know they have a children's menu but it's not online. I will have to check if they are as detailed about their seed/nut ingredients.

Here is an example of their online menu:

Hmmm... I was planning to take a trip downtown and check out the restaurant. I had a closer look at the online menu and there are dishes that have walnuts and pecans. For example, they put pecans on a salad. I don't think I'm comfortable taking my son to a restaurant that has pecans and walnuts rolling around in the kitchen. Too high a risk of cross-contamination.

Also, as my son is only allergic to nuts and peanuts and not any seeds, I would find it helpful if they didn't lump these allergens into one group.

Having said that, I have not contacted them to get food preparation specifics or to find out if they have changed their menu. I just won't make the trip downtown right now but will keep it in mind if I'm in the area or at another Hard Rock Cafe elsewhere.

Once I do get info, I will write to Hard Rock Cafe and express my concerns. After all, their motto is "Love all, serve all".

We had a positive experience at the Hard Rock Cafe in Niagara Falls. The waitress and kitchen staff were very allergy aware. I asked the waitress about the hamburger on the children's menu (mainly about the bun). She mentioned the peanut/nut allergy to the kitchen staff and was told that the hamburger patty on the children's menu has some filler in it and therefore they were not sure if it was safe. However, the "adult" burgers are 100% beef so they gave my son this burger at no extra charge.

Just something to keep in mind if you do decide to eat there...

Interesting about the filler in the kids' burger though... hmmmm. Never assume it's the exact same burger as the one on the regular menu.
