Just to add to the restaurant poll on good places to eat:

We recently went to "Savory Coast" on Robson Street in Vancouver, B.C.
I made a reservation online and explained that I had a sulfite allergy (food must be free of wine, metabisulfites, mustards).
They corresponded by e-mail with me first to obtain clarificationn of the allergy and then to assure me that they could accommodate us at the restaurant.

It was very very good and they were all set for us. Our waiter even had a copy of my e-mail so they were on top of the problem from the get-go and had already determined what I should avoid ordering.

Thanks for the info Mary Ann. We're far away from Vancouver but will one day visit again, since we have family there.

It's good to hear positive restaurant stories. We have a long list of allergies in the family, as you can see from my sig, and I am still really nervous about contemplating a restaurant as a family. We've done it a bit in the past - mostly in the Vancouver area when on vacation, actually - and I was very impressed with how allergies were handled there.

K.
