With the new forum design, I have found that when links are posted in a message, the link does not open in a new window. This makes it difficult to get back to the forum sometimes, as I have to click on my browser's "back" button, and depending on the website, it's not always possible. Would it be possible to arrange it so that links are opened in a new window?

Thanks.

I'd prefer they did, too.

Let us check into this. Hadn't noticed that, so thanks.

Any word on whether this is doable?

AM, Thanks much for the nudge.

We've been pretty busy and this had slipped below the radar.
Agree - this is important.

To you, Susan, Storm ....

Travis had gotten as far as finding out why this changed and will get on the modification so that a link opens on a new page. It involves coding - not as straight forward as I would have thought.

But the makers of the phpBB3software have good justification for the change:
Quote:

Links in phpBB2 had a slightly different behaviour: When you clicked them, they opened a new window with the requested page. This was changed in phpBB3 for a couple of reasons, but one of the most important ones was the goal to achieve XHTML 1.0 Strict-validation for the whole board.
If you still want to get the same behaviour on your new phpBB3 board, there are a couple of modifications you have to make, which this guide should hopefully explain in enough detail.

And then it goes into great long coding changes.

After a couple false starts, should now be opening external links on a new window.

Thanks for your patience.
