This is our family's version of a "chili" type meal. The first time I tried it, I thought it was "not bad", but our family has grown to really enjoy this meal, and we feel it's a good substitute for chili. I'm sure you could play around with the spices, and ingredients to suit your own taste. Note: After browning the meat, you can leave it in a slow-cooker all day, so it's a great meal after a day outside.

Legume-free "Chili"

500 g ground beef
1 onion
3 cloves garlic
1 green pepper
1 red pepper
2 carrots thinly sliced
1 796 ml can crushed tomatoes
1 tsp oregano
1 tsp basil
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper

Brown the ground beef. Add onion, garlic, peppers, carrots, spices. Cook medium heat until onion softened (~5 minutes). Add canned tomatoes.

Serve with rice, macaroni or toast (however you like your "chili"). If you serve with noodles, you may want to top it with cheese. Personally, I really enjoy it served on top of a bed of basmati rice.
