I'm looking to make a "safe" vegetable dip for my daughters first birthday party. This is something I have no idea where to start of course. I would also like to make a pasta salad that is safe. I want everything that is consumed to be safe for her, it's a pretty small party, I've got the safe cake covered, I will also have kettle chips, a fruit platter and vegetable platter. I was thinking a dip would be good, but as far as I know they'd all need dairy.. Any suggestions?

Like you mentioned, dips are usually dairy based, but I've made pasta salad with a vinaigrette salad dressing, or you could just use oil, vinegar, salt, pepper, some spices, onions, garlic, etc or a tomato based pasta salad. You could use something similar for your dip, but maybe thicken it with corn starch or something. I like Renee's Salad dressings, as they are tasty, pretty healthy and made in a peanut-free facility.

I dip veggies in hummus. The hummus I buy also comes in different flavors. I also just saw a jar (at costco did not read ing.) it was hummus/salsa. I think I will buy it next time I go.

Have you found Tofutti brand soy cream cheese and sour cream? There are also other brands available too - Yosoy I think. We use soy sour cream with dry onion soup mix to use for a veggie dip. Soy cream cheese with brown sugar and cinnamon is a nice dip with apple cinnamon pitas or other nice breads. We make up gaucamole (spelling?) to use at parties also. You can make fruit dips with Nutriwhip and soy yogurt and fresh pureed fruit. We always make sure all party food is safe especially finger food. Good luck and enjoy!

I mix soy yoghurt with Veganaise and then add some powdered onion or garlic.
Salsa
Guacamole
Chocoate chips melted with some Coffee Rich and a touch of margarine.
