Talking Allergies

Does anyone know how long you can freeze foods? There's a pizza place in town that I can get pizza with goat cheese rather than cow's milk cheese and veggies, so I eat it quite a bit. With my surgery coming up, I was thinking about ordering a couple of large pies and then breaking them up into ziploc bags and freezing them so that I just have to microwave them or put them in the toaster oven.

Does anyone know of anything else that's easy to make and can be frozen for up to 6-8 weeks? Thanks!!!!!

This is so crazy trying to think of what to do for 6-8 weeks while I'm in a cast.

i make soups, chillis, stews lasgana, cassoroles ect in my crock pot and freeze them for work lunches later, i keep them until i notice they're freezer burned (six months anyway)

heck, i buy lots of things and just throw them in the freezer for later, the rule of thumb in my family is heat it up and if it seems off toss it tho so i'm not sure if i can give you time frames but things should be good for the time it takes for you to get better anyway

The 'kitchen rule of thumb' for pre-made foods (like pizza) would be 3-4 months. However, I agree re: freezer burn... It can probably stay up to 5 or 6.

Wow! That's good to know on all those things. Time for me to stock up on gladware and food.

If you really want something to survive in the freezer you could buy a FoodSaver home vacuum packaging system - it seals the food in plastic bags with all the air sucked out of it. I love ours (we have a full stand-up freezer that we keep pretty stocked with food).

By the way honugirl - I definitely recommend getting a couple of good stew recipes if you like stew, since stew freezes well. Then maybe splurge on a rice cooker. One of the "fast foods" in our house is stew on a bed of rice, and the rice cooker means the rice cooks without you having to keep an eye on it.

We have a Salton rice cooker - there are a bunch listed at http://www.epinions.com/Rice_Cookers_an ... ws--salton - I think ours is the huge 14-cup one, but you could buy a smaller one - and they're not $$$.

My favourites are lamb stew and veal stew, yum....
