Much Depends on Dinner: The Extraordinary History and Mythology, Allure and Obsessions, Perils and Taboos of an Ordinary Meal (Paperback)
by Margaret Visser
I found this book years ago at a second hand store and I think of it often when dealing with food issues.
It talks about the role food plays in society and helps to explain why food is such an emotionally charged issue.
Look for it in your local library. :)

That sounds very interesting, Susan. I've heard Margaret Visser interviewed on the CBC from time to time but I don't think I've heard about this book. Or else I've forgotten - which is entirely possible. If you still have it, could I borrow it?

I don't have it anymore, lost several moves back. I saw two copies at the public library and it brought back memories. Do you have a library card for the Ottawa Public Library?
I'd be willing to check it out for you if you don't.

I don't have one for Ottawa (I would have to pay $30 for a year). If you are near the library and would check it out just before the next OASG meeting I would owe you one! No problem if it's too much trouble though.

I've placed the request and should have it by the next meeting. :)

Sounds great - I used to really enjoy Visser in her interviews with Peter Gzowski on CBC back when...

Could be cool to do an article on something like this, Gwen. I wonder if Ms. Visser would like to do something akin to her book, only with a slant to food allergies???
