Talking Allergies

Those dealing with cashew/pistachio allergies will want to watch out for this: just learned that S. American pink peppercorns are from the same family (Anacardiaceae) as those nuts.

I have never tried pink peppercorns and will certainly avoid them now. I don't know for sure if I am allergic to cashews or pistachios but I'm certainly not taking the chance. Thanks for the heads up.

Interesting. I have OAS, and may have a peanut allergy (3 of my kids do), I bought white pepper the other day, and found something very off/offensive about it, so I threw it out. I wonder if there's any cross reactivity there?

Gwen, Thanks for the heads up! I wonder if the "pink" in the mullti-colour peppercorn mix is this particular peppercorn? Although, since it's not a true peppercorn, I'm guessing not, but definitely not taking any chances - we will stick with black (or white) peppercorn.

Good to know Cashew's are one of my worst allergies.
Now..... one more question at a restaurant, when you see a steak with peppercorn, its not just a peppercorn any more.
