One time I got a gift certificate for a manicure/pedicure/facial. When I called to make the appointment, I let them know about my nut allergy. The day of the appointment, I reminded each girl who worked on me. Well as I'm sitting there having the manicure done, I can see on the label of one product she has already finished using. It contained almond oil. I was not too impressed and she tried to make very light of it. Luckily I didn't have a reaction, but I will never go to a salon for "pampering" again. Just too stressful for me.

Also one time I bought one of the Life brand children's shampoo only to find it had almond oil in it. I was shocked they would put that in a children's product. Now I check labels for creams, facial scrubs (sometimes have walnut shells) etc.

I just bought a Life shampoo that smells like honey and nuts.

Could someone react just by smelling my hair? I'll stop using it!

I have a hard time finding facial creams and have found that there is not a leg hair removal cream out there at all that I can use. Part of it is my nut allergy, the other part is an allergy to baby oil. I tested just about every one on my inner arm. Most of them do not have an ingredient label.

I have never reacted to smelling someone's hair, although I suspect if dh used a shampoo with nut oils it would cause some nighttime discomfort, breathing, sleeping, etc.

Yes, I also have tree nut allergy.
I bought some face cream and well, I had a red rash on my face and my throat began to close off.
I took the medince I have and washed my face.
I was lucky.
I have burn marks under my arm from a deodarnt also. That was really unusal. My Doctor told me two other ladies had reacted to the same one.
I do not know what I should by and use glycernce soaps.
My shampoo is the same for years......
I guess if you were with someone in bed you could possibly smell the shampo if you get my idea.

Call the company first before using the product. I would never ever, ever , use anything until I have a certain guarantee. If not, move on to another product, and when you find a safe one, stay with it.

I just noticed my Clean and Clear Daily Pore Cleanser or whatever it's called has lactic acid in it! So weird!

I adore LUSH beauty products but have to keep an eye out for nuts being in some of their items.

Soy is another problem for me as companies are now onto using this. I had a massive reaction to a 'chocolate body wrap' at a spa which contained soy (this is how I found out I was allergic to soy).

Audra, while one way lactic acid is formed is through the fermentation of lactose, it's generally made from glucose. It's possible to make it synthetically, as well, but more expensive.

I also love Lush! Especially Karma Cream.

Anyone have any information on Druide products? I read a review on them in the Montreal Gazette about how they are allergy-free but noticed that they have a product that contains almond oil.

I sent them emails and called them several times to ask but then just gave up.. any suggestions on what to do when companies don't contact you back?

Thanks!

I was just diagnosed last week with having a nut allergy..see my post under Dining Out...
But Audra posted a question re Life Brand Honey and Nut products...
I have been using this product, both bath wash and body cream for two years....( on and off).
3 weeks ago, I was at work and used the cream...and not five minutes later my heart rate shot up, and my chest and neck felt hot and flushed. I had been avoiding all nut products Since early novemeber, until I had seen the allergist.
In any event, I immediately washed my hands under plently of water, and took a Benadryl.
When I looked at the ingredient list, sure enough, contains Brazil Nut oil extract!

Watch out for Estee Lauder products - Response I received re: an inquiry on nuts / soy...
TMcG

Quote:
As you may be aware, people allergic to peanuts may also react to soybeans,
peas, other legumes and tree nuts, such as walnuts and Brazil nuts. It has
been acknowledged in the medical community that tree nut allergic reactions
coexist in nearly one third of the peanut allergic population. For this
reason, Estee Lauder Companies takes a very serious and conservative
approach in responding to you.

A vast number of raw materials from many different suppliers and sources
are used in the manufacture of Estee Lauder Companies' products. It is
therefore not possible for us to fully guarantee that our products are
completely free of ingredients that may elicit an allergic response in
highly sensitive individuals who react to legumes and nuts. For example,
it is possible that small amounts of a soybean sourced ingredient or trace
amounts of peanut oil may remain on shared manufacturing equipment even
after a thorough cleaning. Even trace amounts of allergens can trigger a
severe reaction when a peanut sensitive individual comes in contact with
them (i.e., hugging/kissing your peanut sensitive child while wearing
cosmetics). We therefore recommend that you discuss this with your
physician because consumer safety is of utmost concern to us.

Additionally the Long Last Soft Matte lipstick does contain ingredients
derived from shea butter, coconut and soy.
