The host of a Christmas gathering I am attending just commented that she will substitute almond flavouring for almond extract in something she is baking for the event. I have looked on-line but have not found any info on what almond flavouring is actually made of. Does anyone know? Is it safe for those who have tree nut allergies?

I'm pretty sure it's the same principle as the difference between vanilla "extract" and "flavouring" where extract has a base of alcohol and is more pungent and flavouring uses oil. But there is still vanilla in each so I would steer clear of almond flavouring too.

According to McCormick's

You may want to follow up with a telephone call to ensure that there is no cross contamination.

Even if the product was safe, if the cookies... smelled like nuts I am sure that alone would turn my tummy off! This idea would concern me also for children or people with out allergies I think they could get a wrong idea or mixed message. I do get that there is a difference and no tree nut is in the product but I think it could mess some people up! :?
