At our local Wal-Mart today I found a frozen dessert that appears to be free of peanuts, tree nuts, dairy and egg! It's called Luigi's Real Italian Ice - a box of 6 little cups of sorbet. The cups are about the size of a small yogurt container.

Their website - http://www.luigis.com/ - has a FAQ page that does mention allergies and pretty much says to check the label for allergens, so I'm hoping that if it's not on the label, it's not in the product (including may contains).

I have sent them an email to ask about the risk of it containing the allergens listed above (i.e. through cross-contamination on the product line).

I will report back!

K.

Here is the reply I got:

Thank you for contacting J&J Snack Foods Corp. regarding our LUIGI'S Real Italian Ice!

We pride ourselves on quality products here at J&J Snack Foods and can guarantee our LUIGI'S Real Italian Ice products are gluten-free, tree-nut free, peanut free and casein free.

Dairy products are run in the same plant that our LUIGI'S products are run in, however our lines alternate between dairy and non-dairy products. The line is cleaned after each line is run. Each non-dairy batch is tested for cross-contamination and if cross-contamination does occur, the batch is not used and the line is cleaned again.

I hope this information helps. If you have any further questions regarding this matter or anything else, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Thank you for your interest in our products.

Sincerely,

Ryan Walsh

So... I think I can live with this.

check out Slush Puppies as well. We pick them and the Luigi's up at the dollar store (they might be $1.50 or $2, I can't remember). they are also delicious and safe for peanut and sesame allergy. Sorry, I don't have any info about other allergens.
