We have been told by our allergist that our son may have outgrown his sunflower seed allergy and to go ahead and give him some in small amounts. My problem is I cannot find sunflower seeds (or pumkin seeds that I'd like to add to baking!) that are nut or peanut safe. They all contain traces of.

My son isn't interested in trying the sunbutter. I thought that could be a good solution!

I've gone to health food stores as well as Bulk Barn to have them check the ingredient list for "traces of" on their new boxes so that we could have the first batch should they be safe and they all contain traces of.

That's now made me question any products that contain sunflower seeds. How do we know they don't contain traces of. Will manufacturers typically label if they are not safe??

Can anyone recommend a brand or a place where I can purchase nut/peanut free sunflower seeds or pumpkin seeds?

Thanks for you help

Denise

"Spitz" sunflower seeds http://www.spitz.ca/ are manufactured/processed in a peanut and tree nut free facility. They also manufacture pumpkin seeds. You can find them quite readily -- No Frills, Loblaws, Your Independent Grocer, many gas stations, etc.
And as far as other products that contain sunflower seeds, like some whole grain breads (for example) -- yes, I'm suspect of them too. Unless you call the manufacturer and confirm that they verify with their suppliers about cross-contaminants -- there is good reason to believe that they are using seeds that "may contain" nuts/peanuts.

Thanks for the info.

I will check again at Loblaws, I must have missed them. I tried their website but couldn't enter. Will try again later.

Thanks again

Denise

I have had the same thought about Sunbutter, Trillium. I just went to their website and their products are made in a dedicated peanut and tree nut free factory. They also carry trail mix that contains sunflower seeds. I wonder if we wrote them if they would start selling bags of sunflower seeds.

My family is allergic to peanuts, but not tree nuts. Does anyone know where you can purchase peanut free tree nuts? It seems impossible!! I live in Mississauga, Ontario.
