A friend looking for a gift just asked me where to buy great nut-free, boxes of chocolates in the Toronto area.

Any suggestions?

I have to use a qualifier. To me any chocolates that are peanut free are great.

It's difficult to find full size boxes that are safe though. I did find some yesterday at Zellers. They are Cella - made by Tootsie Roll company. It's not a mixed box -- all are the chocolate covered cherry. I bought a few boxes. :D

Thought I'd add the info I found on their web-site (click nutrition on any product)

Quote:
We are pleased to be able to inform you that, at this time, all of our confections are gluten, peanut and nut product free. We do not use wheat, barley, rye, oats, triticale, spelt or any of their components and that includes our manufacturing process. We do use corn and soy products in the manufacturing of our products.

Here's a link to the Cella. www.tootsie.com/cella.html They only picture the individual, but they are available in a package the size of a chocolate bar -- with about 4 in a package, or a bigger box.

It's not in the Toronto area, but when I want good chocolate, I order from Vermont Nut Free Chocolates. They ship via Canada Post, as they're right near the Quebec border. They sell boxed chocolates as well as dark chocolate, milk chocolate, and baking supplies. Some of their products are processed on shared dairy or egg equipment, but they indicate this in their online catalog.

Their address is www.vermontnutfree.com

The Sick Kids' hospital in Toronto carries some of their items, but I'm not certain about the boxed chocolate.

Thanks Andrea, have passed on as well.

Haven't seen you on the boards as much lately. No doubt busy with the baby.
Hope all is going well.

Thanks, Gwen. We had some challenges, so I had to spend much more time offline. It's good to be able to visit the boards more often now. Wishing you happy holidays and a joyous new year!
