Ok so this past Christmas I had a hard time buying gifts for other people. It was always so easy to buy a gift basket or a box of chocolates but I didn't want to buy anything with our allergies in it. I don't want them in my house at all. So I was just wondering am I the only one that did this? Or as someone from my family told me I take every thing too far

We have the same rule in our house- whatever my son cannot eat, none of us can either, nor do I allow anyone to bring anything even that "may contain" into our home. I also take nut free products to others houses. I don't think that respecting my child's life is "going too far".
As for the presents situation, I did the same thing...and you know, it may take a little more time and thought (which is what I thought the season was about anyway? ) but I received some very nice comments and reactions to how suitable or personal the gift was. Instead of a simple box of chocolates, I found some lovely pointsetta plants and Christmas flower arrangements that often were less expensive (thank you Costco!).
I think it is really important for us to set an example for our children that there really are alternatives out there.

6 1/2 year old son - anaphylactic to tree nuts, allergic to dust and moulds
5 1/2 year old son - no allergies
15 month old son...allergies unknown
