I just saw an Aveeno moisturizer in the store that I believe contains some type of peanut derivative. I can't remember the exact ingredient (I quickly sat the box back on the shelf), but I know it was a daily moisturizer.

Here it is:

Aveeno Clear Complexion Daily Moisturizer

Ingredients

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Active Ingredients: Salicylic Acid (0.5%) (Acne medication)

Inactive Ingredients: Arachidyl Alcohol, Arachidyl Glucoside, Behenyl Alcohol, BHT, BIS Phenylpropyl Dimethicone, C12-15 Alkyl Benzoate, C13-14 Isoparaffin, Cetearyl Alcohol, Cetearyl Glucoside, Dimethicone, Disodium EDTA, Ethylene Acrylic Acid Copolymer, Fragrance, Glycerin, Glycine Soja Seed Extract (Soybean), Isoceteth 20, Laureth 7, Methyl Gluceth 20, Polyacrylamide, PPG 10 Cetyl Ether, Water

It's very odd that they would identify Glycine Soja Seed Extract as (Soybean), and not identify Arachidyl Alcohol or Arachidyl Glucoside as peanut.

I tried to look up these two ingredients and all I can find is areference to the fact that they are fatty or waxy substances-not very helpful. :(

"Arachidyl alcohol, also 1-icosanol, is a waxy substance used as an emollient in cosmetics. It is a straight-chain fatty alcohol"

I am really annoyed that I can't find a site that clearly states it's derivatives...most unusual.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arachidic_acid

"Reduction of arachidic acid yields arachidyl alcohol"

"Arachidic acid, also called eicosanoic acid, is a saturated fatty acid found in peanut oil."

This is what I found...now I'm off to have a look at my personal care products to see if this is in them...sigh....
Have a great weekend everyone :)

And from http://allnaturalbeauty.us/cosmetic_ing ... ossary.htm (take it with a grain of salt - they have spelling errors...)

Quote:
ARAHIDIC [sic]ACID – A fatty acid also called eicosanoic acid that is found in peanut oil and similar vegetable fats. Also arahidic [sic] alcohol.

So the question would be: do these elements have any peanut protein associated with them? Or are they smaller elements that would not cause any problems for a peanut-allergic person?

K.
