Hello everyone! I'm very excited to finally be joining your community.

Quick intro: I am the proud mom of a 2 year old daughter with serious food allergies to (at least) dairy, egg and peanut. We (my husband and I) entered the world of food allergies about 1 1/2 years ago when we discovered our daughter's dairy allergy. I look forward to being an active poster (time permitting, of course) !

My question is about finding safe soy sauce? I am a fan of China Lily but am not finding the company's contact info and thought this might be a good place to ask... it was the "caramel" ingredient that had me worried, on top of the possibility of contamination. What's a good soy sauce, safe of dairy, egg, nuts and peanuts? What are people using?

Hope this is an easy first question! :)
Jen

Glad you found us!

Soya sauce is currenlty my daughters condiment of choice...it goes on everything or into all dipping sauce combinations that she makes up.

We use Kikkoman soya sauce it doesn't contain caramel.

Caramel is one of my pet peeves. If lecithan must be labeled as soy or egg based...why doesn't caramel require dairy or sugar based labelling?

I suppose I should really write to CFIA.

Perfect!! Thank you! I guess we'll be switching to Kikkoman. You've saved me from reading a million labels in the grocery store (at least for soy sauce) and since I've always used China Lily (what I grew up on, too), I had no idea what to try next. Good to know it's a favourite in your family!

Thanks, also, for welcoming me warmly.
:)

Kikkoman is our favourite too.
We're *only* dealing with peanut and tree nut allergies, but I wanted to add that I remember reading somewhere on the boards here that you need to make sure that it's the soy sauce that's made in Walworth, WI, USA in order to be sure that it's peanut and tree nut safe.
Kikkoman is a global company with facilities around the world and they do manufacture other foods with nuts.
