Our family looked like dorks at Walmart this afternoon. Our daughter noticed a HUGE table full of peanut free symbol goods. The more we looked the more we found. The bakery lady told me that due to all the peanut free schools Walmart has decided to have their own brand of baked goods peanut/tree nut free.

In the cooler section where you would buy a birthday cake are packaged cake slabs (320 grams) with the peanut/tree nut free symbol. Each cake is 2.97$ and is called Walmart Instore Bakery. I did check and they do come in packaged from the peanut/tree nut free facility. There is Black Forest Cake, Vanilla Cream Cake and Chocolate Fudge Cake.

They also had a huge table right in the bakery section all of peanut/tree nut free goods. Under the same Walmart Bakery Brand name there are Easter Bunny house kits (with candy), peanut/tree nut free, $6.97. There was also for $4.97 and Easter cookie decorating kit under the Walmart Bakery brand (sugar cookies and decorations).

We just opened the cake and the Chocolate Fudge is GOOOOD!! I just wanted to mention that they did a really great job designing the packages. The cake comes in those standard clear bakery plastic containers, I thought it was just the label being used as a seal until we went to open them and I realized they are in a tamper proof container. There is a secondary plastic tab which is the length of the container, until you actually pull it back ripping it off you can't open the container.

Touche Bakery also had peanut/tree nut free items, a 100g tub of rainbow meringues $3.97.
I have bought peanut/tree nut free plantain chips at Sobeys but I found another brand today at Walmart which are peanut/tree nut free. They are JOE'S tasty Travers, lightly salted or spicy. 165 g bag for $2.00.

Thank you for the information. Now that all of these peanut/nut free goodies are available I going to have to get out walking more often or I will never keep my slim figure. Ha! Ha!

Is there a phone number on the package?

I do recall seeing something at Walmart, and since is said "In-Store Bakery" silly me assumed that meant baked in the store. I went to ask if it was also sesame free, but they didn't know, because apparently IN STORE doesn't mean "in the store". :scratchy

Totally forgot all about it until I read your post. I can't find anything listed on google either.

I did the same thing at first after reading the In store Bakery name. I took the container right up and asked about 10x if by instore they meant the cakes were in any way baked, cut, packaged In store. Not the wisest name :scratchy
I recycled the conatiners but I have sent an email to Walmart Canada just to be certain of the sesame issue.
I'll let you know what they say.

I was just complaining I hadn't heard from Walmart yet when they called. The lady who helped me was actually very thorough in her answer. The bakery does follow guidelines for may contains and would label if there was any chance of cross contamination from a top allergen. So unless marked ex.may contain sesame the baked goods are in fact sesame safe. She said the labelling is being changed also to add a tree nut free symbol.
I asked her to pass on that the name is awful. I explained that the number one rule when buying baked goods for someone allergic is NEVER to buy instore baking. So to call the peanut/tree nut free line line 'Walmart Instore Bakery' is going to cause many people to assume as I did that they have no idea what they are talking about hence me questioning the bakery staff over and over if they did bake/package it on site or not. The baked goods are all made at a nut/peanut free facility and brought in packaged and as I mentioned above they have the safety seal on the containers.
