I read through some of the Gingerbread house topic for peanut allergies, but I am wondering if anyone has any ideas for a gluten free gingerbread house? I have made non gf ones before, but there is so much risk of cross contamination, it just isn't worth it. A kit would be fantastic, but I have yet to see one.

what about using safe cookies instead of gingerbread?

I have seen houses made from wafer cookies. (I have no idea whether they are gf or not, just using them as an example.)

Or, since they really aren't edible after sitting out so long, why not make the house out of cardboard, and then decorate as a gingerbread house?

We use milk (juice) cartons. Different sizes for different buildings, cut for the height we want. The top works fairly well for the roofs. We cover them with icing. They are not edible - but safe so we don't eat them - just decorate and admire.

Hi, Kinnikinnick makes Gluten Free graham style crackers. We are planning on using those to make a Gingerbread house. If you google search "graham cracker ginerbread house" there are many patterns and pictures to use as a guide.

Good Luck

Thanks ajsmom, I saw those graham crackers the other day. Are they crumbly like most GF foods or do they hold up pretty well? I find that gf foods are getting better and better as more come on the market.

We also found some GF sugar cookies that we will be decorating from Mountain Top Bakery. We get them at our local organic store but I'm not sure how widespread they are.
