Has anyone been able to find nut-free dates? I always make date squares at Christmas and haven't been able to find safe dates. I'll order them online and/or pit them if I have to. (Date squares are my favourite Christmas treat!)

Sorry, not sure about where to buy dates, but at first glance, I thought you meant the other kind of 'date', and were looking for suggestions of where to go so there wouldn't be nuts around! LOL.

We have used the No Name dates from Loblaws for years without incident (PA only). I can't remember if we called when we first started using them - I think so, but can't guarantee it.

Thank you, Susan. I saw they didn't have a warning but wasn't sure if their labelling could be trusted. I'll bring my phone to the store today and check for tree nuts and dairy.

Sorry for taking so long to reply - I was avoiding Superstore over the Christmas break due to massive crowding... but I went there today, called, and bought a big package of pitted dates!!

Pitted Dates
1 kg - Club Pack
No Name brand (yellow packaging)
** No peanuts or tree nuts on the line or in the facility. **
(I did not check the smaller 500g package because we really like dates and the 1 kg package has two smaller packages inside anyway.)

Date squares, here I come. A little late, and that's okay - better to be safe.

The guy on the phone was very nice and very quick to check the product's allergy information. I was in an out of the store (with dates and some PC Decadent chocolate chips) in 10 minutes!

So.... Superstore dates (any size) are no longer safe for PN/TN allergies. :( Any other suggestions? Either dried pitted dates or fresh medjool dates would work, both would be awesome!

Golden Boy doesn't have a nut warning any more (on anything) but I don't trust them one bit.

Ugh! This was my go-to brand. I'll contact Metro about the Selection brand later this week. They are good at customer inquiries.

Let me know what you find out. We don't have Metro here, but it's still good to know. I'll check other grocery stores around here as I get to them.

A local support group member found out that Jaffa dates are safe. They are available at Sobeys.

I found the Jaffa dates! I'm going to call them on Monday to make sure they are still safe. Yay!
