I just sampled the Keurig Green Mountain Hot Chocolate while out shopping, and noticed that it said 'Contains Milk, Soy and Tree Nuts' on the lid. Just want to bring it to everyone's attention in case of TN kids who might want some cocoa over the holidays while out visiting people.

Thanks, we have a few friends with those machines and I'll make sure to check the labels if we're offered any!

We noticed the warning too. :( We avoid using those machines for anything because the cross contamination is so high between cartridges.

If they've ever used their Keurig to make any of the drinks with nuts the machine will be making a safe product a may contain. The K-cup is put into the machine and something pokes through the cup, that something will be contaminated. I'm not sure they all label well either.

DH wants one for his birthday, so I spent time contacting companies. The only K-cups I found that were safe are Van Houte and Timothy's.

Van Houte has a hazelnut flavoured coffee, but it does not contain any hazelnut, it's artificial. (Sorry, the e-mails are on my other computer so can't quote.

Thank so much becky!! We've been looking at the machines but now I know to stick to the Van Houtte also. I have been buying the Hazelnut Vanilla beans from Costco which I am thrilled to see like van houtte actually label on the package that the product has no real tree nuts /peanuts used all artificial flavoring.

And yikes...the cross contamination of the cartridges is very scary. Not just if our kids touch it but for adult with allergies. :frightened

:frightened Found these exact ones in the school staff room today!!!!!!!!!! :frightened
Teachers drink them in the classrooms and the hot cocoa is apparently a favorite!!!
I called and the chai latte, cafe mocha, dark hot chocolate and light hot chocolate all contain tree nuts.
The cross contamination is a HUGE issue though as these machines are used widespread now in businesses etc. :|

Well, I wrote a letter to the company for clarification, and don't feel like it's any clearer. I read the ingredients list for the ones that listed Tree Nuts, and none are listed - other than Coconut. Here is the reply.

"Thank you for your inquiry. Flavored coffees made by Coffee People, Gloria Jeans, Green Mountain or Timothy's do not contain any nut proteins. They declare that their coffees are free of all nut allergens.
The flavored coffees are all flavored in separate vats from the non-flavored coffees. Also, even though there are no nut proteins used, Green Mountain performs a thorough clean-down between flavors during the production process.
Additionally, all coffee and K-Cups are egg, dairy and gluten-free. Hot Cocoa K-Cups are gluten-free except for
The Hot Cocoa K-Cup offered by Green Mountain does contain Milk, Soy and Tree Nuts.
The White Hot Chocolate K-Cup offered by Timothy’s does contain Milk and Soy.
The Café Escapes K-Cups do contain Milk, Soy and Tree Nuts.
Timothy’s Lemon Blueberry Tea does contain Gluten.
We hope this information was helpful. Please feel free to contact us or the roaster directly if you have any other questions. "

I am loving my Timothy's. Folger's is safe to.

For my son, we have bought packs of hot chocolate (not K-cups). Without a K-cup in the machine, it can run hot water through to make it.

To say their flavored coffees don't contain tree nuts is VERY confusing...mochas and lattes ARE COFFEE's (and are cafe escapes not coffee also) :scratchy !! :frightened
That reply is SO confusing Becky. :scratchy And unless I'm crazy they forgot to list that the mochas contain tree nuts (which I specifically read online AND called to confirm).

Yes, I agree :(. But the only nut listed in the ingredients seems to be coconut, which isn't always considered a tree nut (ie the safe dare cookies often contain coconut...) I wonder if they are being hypervigilant??? Sigh.

I'll follow up and contact the individual companies later this week.

In the US coconut is considered a nut.
