Over the Christmas holidays I discovered that I am just like my mother and seem to be allergic to rye. When we lived in PEI she had my dad posted out of province because of the rye grass (gave her awful sinus infections, and hayfever). She also could never drink rye as one sip it would cause her nose to start dripping.
I had a sip of dh's rye and ginger one evening and the same thing. Stuffed right up and then the drip started.
I haven't eaten rye bread for years so don't know if that would cause a problem or not. I don't think my mom eats rye bread either (now that I think of it I'll have to ask her).

Rye often used to make my throat slightly itchy, but I didn't test allergic to it. In any case, I can't eat it anymore now that I have been diagnosed with celiac.
