Poetry Basics - for those of you who need a little help

I am truly not a poet, and I truly do know it.

However, I have been asked to provide some assistance to those of you who might be interested in putting pen to paper (or rather, finger to keyboard) for the Allergic Living Poetry Contest.

With that in mind, I turn to my good friend wikiHow to help explain how to write a poem.

Click on the links below to learn…

How to Write a Poem

How to Write an Acrostic Poem (that is, a non-rhyming poem)

How to Write a Haiku Poem

    Writing poetry
    Is never easy for me
    So I rarely try

How to Construct a Limerick

There once was a kid who did sneeze
Whenever he went near the trees
    We felt really bad,
    But he wasn’t sad.
At least he was okay with bees!

If you are still suffering from writer's block, wikihow has many other articles in their Poetry category!

Need even more inspiration?

Here are some fun poetry sites for kids (and adults):

RobertMunsch.com
Lots of fun poems by Robert Munsch – well-known Canadian author of many kids’ books – and of poems, it turns out!

Fizzy Funny Fuzzy – Fun Poetry for Kids!
A huge amount of fun poems for kids (of any age) by a man named Gareth Lancaster. The site also has lots of links to other poetry sites.

Poetry 101 – Introduction to Poetry
A nice little podcast that provides a fun and basic introduction to poetry.

if you want some feedback before you submit, try http://www.fictionpress.com/ it's mostly teenaged emo kids who review with stuff like "heart heart heart i love it!!" but occationally you hit upon some good poetry, besides that you can sometimes get into poet mode just by reading some stuff (i might be bias toward the cause i have hundreds of my poems posted up there)
