How about (as you hand back the bowl of mixed nuts), "Oh, I think there are enough nuts here already, don't you agree? (meaning family members and it's true in my family!)

My in-laws were notorious for putting out our daughters allergens until my husband was very firm that it would not be tolerated. Either the allergens get put away or she won't be visiting. It turms out that they did most of it out of habit. Once they were given options (yes, I really had to spell it out for them) they have been great.

Daughter: asthma, allergies to egg, milk, peanuts, tree nuts, most legumes (not soy) & penicillin. Developing hayfever type allergies.
Husband: no allergies
Me: allergies to some tree that flowers in May
Cat: allergic to beef, pork and lamb
