Hi there, my cousin just emailed me this question .."Hi there. Need help please. Do you or any of your allergy Mums know if you can do allergy testing while on anti biotics? I would think not, but not sure. Nicky has been given anti biotics for a suspected eye infection but has his allergy test on Monday! "

I know our son is allowed NO antihistimines for 48 hours min. before testing. Not sure about anti-biotics?

I don't think the`antibiotics will matter.
1. They don't advise against it's use.
2. Antibiotics do not mask a reaction. Antibiotics cure disease by killing or injuring bacteria. The skin prick test measures the histamine reaction.

Good luck with the test!

Her little guy has had horrid eczema for a year and a half as well as having many reactions to top allergens....yet in the UK they refused to prescribe an epipen or do any allergy testing until he was 2 yrs old. My cousin just moved from the UK to Australia where they now are going to test him...finally!!!!

...this is my 1st cousins' little boy....he is the first person besides our son - on either side of our family - to display any eczema or reactions. It will be interesting to see how he tests as he seems to be doing a bit better with food the past few months. I let her know also that what looks like reactions to multiple foods could also be a re-occuring reaction to just one food but through trace or cross contamination (I hope), it is just hard to know what to avoid when there has been no testing to tell her what TO avoid!!! He also since 1 has had environmental allergy symptoms so he seems to unfortunately have a pretty solid history here for some kind of food allergy. I hope not...my fingers are crossed for her.
