Since our recent scare (ana reaction in child with no previous allergies, cause unknown), we are starting down the road of testing, blood work first (once the ER meds clear) and then on the wait list for skin tests. Unfortanately it's about a 12 month wait, I would really like results sooner, and would travel or pay (preferably within Canada) for such a service. Thanks.

Yes, there can be quite a wait. :(

Once you are referred to an allergist, ask to be put on the cancellation list. If someone cancels their appointment, they will start with this list and call patients to see if they can fill the spot.

Good luck with your tests!

When Dd was first diagnosed with PA 5 yrs ago, we asked to be referred to an allergist after hearing he did blood tests and did not insist on only doing skin prick tests. His wait time was only a week. He was not kid friendly, or even patient friendly! He treated DH and me like disobedient teenagers because we couldn't remember the exact order of DD's symptoms. We were afraid to ask questions because he was so abrupt, and never went back. That said, he had a short wait at the time. Let me know if you want his info (he's in Vancouver).
