I've had problems with restaurants understanding the term ALLERGY and it frustrates me to no end.
Ex.

Me: *loud and clear* "I have a seafood allergy. You need to wipe down the counter and anything that may have touched seafood"
Sandwich Guy: *Nods, half wipes counter, and then proceeds to put a huge glob of SEAFOOD SALAD on my sandwich* :banghead (maybe he didn't speak good english? but even if you speak very few words I think ALLERGY should be a known term if you are working in food! thankfully his coworker came and saved me)


how do you communicate allergies at restaurants?

The good news is that many restaurants are allergy aware. Eating out can be done but it requires effort.
