FYI, Health Canada sent me this. For anyone interested:

Look in any Canadian’s medicine cabinet and no doubt you’ll find a variety
of over-the-counter and prescription drugs, along with a few bottles of
natural health products. But how often do we think about the risks involved
with the health products we use?

All health products on the shelves at your local pharmacy or natural health
store have benefits and risks. But sometimes negative or adverse reactions
aren’t apparent until the general population starts using them in everyday,
real-life circumstances.

Health Canada, through the Canadian Adverse Drug Reaction Monitoring
Program, collects and assesses adverse reaction reports. By telling your
doctor or Health Canada about a suspected adverse reaction to a health
product, you are contributing to the ongoing collection of safety and
effectiveness information once health products are put on the shelves. The
result will be safety knowledge about health products that will benefit all
Canadians.

Have you experienced an adverse reaction? We want to hear from you. Please
visit the MedEffect website at www.healthcanada.gc.ca/medeffect (click on
the fourth button on right) to submit a report online. Or download a form
from the website and fax it to 1-866-678-6789. To submit a report by
telephone, call toll free 1-866-234-2345.

Thanks Gwen. That's great that they are doing that.

This made me wonder what they will do about lactose in a lot of homeopathic medicines. That's one of the things that comes to mind when people talk about "natural medicines". I keep my dairy-allergic child away from lactose (and homeopathic meds), because of the risk of some milk protein sneaking in....

I also hesitate to give those kinds of meds to my children, because of their various allergies - both food and environmental. I worry that it might contain something that could be cross-reactive...

K.
