Here are a couple of articles in today's La Presse newspaper:

http://www.cyberpresse.ca/article/20061 ... CPACTUEL03

http://www.cyberpresse.ca/article/20061 ... CPACTUEL03

The 1st one is about allergies being a very lucrative business and the 2nd one is about how allergic people deal with eating out.

For those who don't read French, when I have more time I will sum up the articles in English.

The paper also had an article about gluten intolerance.

Nicole - in the second article it says "Au Québec, les écoles primaires ont banni les arachides des cafétérias..."

Does that mean the province of Quebec? (Not the city of Quebec, right?)

Because that isn't true. It all depends on the school.

At our school, it's done on a class-by-class basis. It's misleading to give the impression that peanuts and nuts are banned.

K.

That does sound hard to believe (and yes, "au Québec" means the province... "à Québec" is for only Québec City). I don't think all elementary schools in Québec have banned peanuts from their cafeterias. How would that be enforced? I haven't heard of any laws...

The second article also mentions what they are doing in Boston to train restaurant staff on allergies. Very interesting.
