Daughter: asthma, allergies to egg, milk, peanuts, tree nuts, most legumes (not soy) & penicillin. Developing hayfever type allergies.
Husband: no allergies
Me: allergies to some tree that flowers in May
Cat: allergic to beef, pork and lamb

That is a great article -- covers a lot of (well-researched) bases and tells a good story for families with LTAs and how hard it can be for our kids. The way it looks at the bullying is so frightening -- it is very painful because these incidents are NOT accidents and not limited to kids teasing kids -- adults don't always do a good job either. As my son has been a victim of bullying because of his allergy, reading articles like this reinforces my stance that the focus needs to move to figuring out how to manage the disease (their terminology) of FAs and not simply how to 'deal' with the people who suffer from them.

I agree - this is an awesome article. Tons of good info. I've sent it to a huge list of people.

I particularly found this quote interesting:

“Robert Wood, M.D., director of the Division of Pediatric Allergy and Immunology at Johns Hopkins Children's Center in Baltimore, notes, however, that his new research is indicating that milk and egg allergies are growing more stubborn, with "no more than 50%" of children outgrowing them.”

I have suspected this for awhile... and I would love to see more data on this.
