KING PHARMA CANADA LAUNCHES
EPIPEN® EXPIRATION REMINDER PROGRAM

Web-based Service Helps Keep
Consumers’ Life-Saving Medication Up-to-Date

Toronto – King Pharma Canada announced today that it has launched an Internet-based expiration reminder program for the EpiPen® auto-injector (epinephrine injection). Consumers may register for the EpiPen Expiration Reminder Service by visiting www.epipen.ca. By entering in a unique “lot number” found on each EpiPen, registrants will automatically be notified shortly before their EpiPen is about to expire.

EpiPen is an auto-injector that administers epinephrine, the definitive emergency treatment for anaphylaxis, a severe allergic reaction that some individuals experience in response to certain foods, including peanuts, medications, insect venom or latex. Anaphylaxis can be fatal within minutes if untreated. EpiPen, when administered at the first signs of anaphylaxis, can provide individuals the time necessary to obtain more definitive emergency treatment. Approximately 600,000 Canadians are estimated to have allergic sensitivities, placing them at risk for anaphylaxis.

Once an individual registers his/her EpiPen at www.epipen.ca, reminder e-mails will automatically be sent three months and one month prior to expiration. At that time, consumers are encouraged to call their physician or visit their pharmacist to refill their prescription.

“We cannot stress enough the importance of keeping epinephrine auto-injectors up-to-date. If your auto-injector has expired, it may not work as effectively and could have life-threatening consequences,” said Laurie Harada, Executive Director, Anaphylaxis Canada. “People often forget to replace their auto-injectors before they expire. An automated reminder service such as this one is an invaluable tool.”

About EpiPen

EpiPen is an auto-injector that administers epinephrine—and epinephrine is the definitive emergency treatment for severe allergic reactions. These reactions, called anaphylaxis, can become fatal within minutes if untreated.

How Supplied: EpiPen and EpiPen Jr. auto-injectors are available in single cartons. Further information can be found at www.epipen.ca or by calling 1 (877) EPIPEN1 (1-877-374-7361).

EpiPen (epinephrine) Auto-Injector 0.3/0.15 mg is indicated for emergency treatment of allergic reactions (anaphylaxis). Such emergencies may occur spontaneously or from insect stings, bites, foods, drugs, or other allergens, as well as idiopathic or exercise induced anaphylaxis.

EpiPen should be used with extreme caution in people who have heart disease. Side effects of EpiPen may include fast or irregular heartbeat, nausea, and breathing difficulty. Certain side effects may be increased if EpiPen is used while taking tricyclic antidepressants or monoamine oxidase inhibitors.

The EpiPen and EpiPen Jr. are designed as emergency supportive therapy only and are not a replacement or substitute for immediate medical or hospital care.
