Does anyone know of a famous Canadian who has a life threatening food allergy? We are especially looking for a person with BC roots to help come out and give us some media attention on our Bill M 210. We need a 'blitz' of sorts before the still-tentative plan for the second reading on May 28th and we thought maybe we could approach someone who is know in the media for other things.

Right now we know of BC actor
Joshua Jackson – Actor (Dawson’s Creek, Pacey)
Biography for Joshua Jackson, under trivia
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0005045/bio

and Canadian sprinter (but no BC connection?)
LaDonna Antoine-Watkins
“As the Canadian champion 200 and 400 meter sprinter, LaDonna
Antoine-Watkins trains hard, travels and competes a lot. At the 2000
Sydney Olympics, she came close to losing the chance to run when an
anaphylactic reaction to peanuts threw her off track. Thanks to the
support of her teammates and coach, LaDonna was still able to run her
race.”

So. . . does anyone have any connections to either? Do you know a hockey player on the Canucks, a football player on the Lions or a Liberal BC MLA who has a LTA? If so, let us know by posting here or sending me an email.

Thanks so much,
Caroline

Allergic Living has run features in past issues on famous Canadians. I believe Shelagh Rodgers from CBC radio was one. I think she has a wheat allergy? She lives in BC. I forget some of the others. I would have to search through my past issues. Okay I went to my pile of AL. The gold medalist Simon Whitfield lives in Victoria. He has multiple food allergies. Erica Ehm's daughter has multiple food allergies. Good luck.

Those are the only people I can think of as well. Maybe send a PM to Gwen to pick her brain (if you haven't already).

Is Kyle Dine Canadian? I don't think he's from the west coast, but he is a children's entertainer and speaks (sings) specifically about food allergies.

Normand Brathwaite, a big name in Quebec entertainment, is anaphylactic to 6 types of 'bee stings' . Carries his epipen all the time, and even trains members of his staff when he's on tour.

Too bad, it was for this morning at 10:00 AM. We missed it.

Wow - I did not know that. Normand B. is HUGE in Quebec. That's very cool that he did that.
