Peanut allergy? Give peas a chance.

This peanut butter substitute is a hit with the U.S. military, and parents

by JANICE PASKEY

Let it not be said that Canada hasn't helped the United States military in the last few years. It's a quiet, unassuming assist, mind you, rooted in the agricultural heartland of Alberta. Literally. On the shelves of U.S. military commissaries this year is NoNuts Golden Peabutter, a spread that looks and tastes close to peanut butter. When the U.S. military called for a peanut butter substitute for soldiers and their families with peanut allergies, it found the answer in this plucky product from Mountain Meadows Food Processing (2004) Ltd., a mom and pop shop in Legal, Alta.

The quote from Nando really made me laugh. It says he has a recipe for something similar to Reese's Pieces. I think they made an error there - he has a recipe for Reese's PB cups, made with NoNuts Golden Peabutter. They are very messy to make - but very yummy. :D

I've been having trouble finding Peabutter in the stores lately. Not just sold out either - no space on the shelf for them. Anyone else having this problem?
