Allergic Living is pleased to share the following news notice with on behalf of Amy Wicker of AllergySafeTravel.com:

AllergySafeTravel.com, a new online travel resource for those with food allergies, is preparing to shoot a video this summer in the western suburbs of Chicago.

They are looking for people, both children and adults, who have had reactions to nuts on airplanes.

They’re also looking for individuals who have never flown before because of the nut issue. This footage will be used during a presentation to the airlines association this fall.

It’s a great opportunity to tell your story to those who have the ability to make policy changes within the airline industry. If you or someone you know might be interested, please contact Amy at Amy@AllergySafeTravel.com.

In addition to the video, AllergySafeTravel.com recently launched a Facebook page – Allergic Reactions on Airlines – for those who don’t live in the Chicago area and who wish to upload their own video story.

I've definitely had reactions to nut residue on planes - several cases of hives and one contact ingestion reaction (Epi not required). Not to mention the time I was given nuts with my drink after I told the flight crew of my allergy! It definitely makes me anxious about flying, but we do our best to minimise the risk and always bring safe snacks, Benadryl, and EpiPens. We often pay more to fly with an airline with better allergy policies (i.e. WestJet).

Thanks SpaceCan.

Amy would appreciate hearing about that if you have a moment.

I emailed her, adding in some other frightening experiences as well as the time customs almost didn't let me bring a bunch food with me because it was 'suspiciously' too much food to bring on vacation, apparently. It was scary - the guy was really mean to us about it and demanded a doctor's note! Thankfully none of our food items were prohibited and I had a MedicAlert bracelet with allergies on it... but still!

Good grief.
Judging how much a family eats is getting beyond security issues.
