B.C. hospital bans flowers over staffer’s ‘life-threatening’ allergies as more care facilities get rid of greenery

Quote:
The West Coast General Hospital in Port Alberni, B.C., recently posted signs on its doors telling visitors to stop bringing the common gift for friends and family because one staffer had “several severe, life-threatening allergic reactions to flowers” while working in the small, 52 bed hospital.

“While flowers often have a therapeutic value,” the sign reads. “They can also aggravate health problems for some patients and staff, especially those with asthma, allergies and other medical conditions, causing reactions severe enough to require emergency medical treatment.
