I just returned from interviewing an interesting couple for an article (non-Allergic Living, non-allergy) that I'm working on.

Now I never take cookies from strangers  but you might think a cup of tea was safe to accept. I took my cup of plain black tea and was about to add a dash of milk when I noticed that the "milk" in the pitcher looked a little thicker and darker than usual.

"Is this soy milk?" I asked. Oh yes, they said. We swapped cups, but arrghh - soy is so ubquitous now. At least these people had heard of soy allergy. I find many haven't.

I guess with more people choosing vegetarian and vegan choices, that would increase the amount of soy around.

I no longer take anything for granted as safe. A few years ago my husband and I were shooting some pool and I ordered an iced tea. They make it fresh there, and it's the best I've ever had. I went to take a drink and noticed something floating in the cup -- dug it out. It was a sesame seed. Just one lone seed.
