What type of shortening do you use? Everyone I've seen is made from Soybean oil! Is there vegetable shortening out there that's not made from Soy?

Thanks

Spectrum Naturals makes an organic shortening that is 100% palm oil. (My nephew is mildly allergic to soy.) Whole foods carries this in the States, but I understand they have these in Canada also.

Good luck,
Daisy

I haven't taken a look at their shortening, but all of the spectrum oil products I've seen have a "processed in a plant that processes nuts" warning. But if nuts aren't a concern for you or if the shortening is made in another plant, this sounds like a good option.

I don't use shortening---I just use canola/safflower oil or butter or a combination of the two. (but I don't make things like pastry or cakes--can't have wheat)

Thanks - we do have a PA here too.

I'll look at the Spectrum to see and will continue to look for an alternative.
