Yikes - I shop there quite a lot. However, I avoid all their bakery items because they have told me they are all 'may contain traces' for tree nuts and peanuts.

Do you happen to know, when they talk about 'undeclared walnut', do they mean there are actual walnuts in the ingredients, or is it an undeclared 'may contain traces of walnuts'? I'd be really disappointed in this company if they actually put walnuts in there on purpose and failed to list them in the ingredient label. Thanks.

That would mean "contains" walnut, as the CFIA warnings will say "may contain" if it's just that.

Note that it says:

So Choices did mess up on the label, but at least issued the recall and reported the problem to CFIA, so it could issue a warning. I also think of them as among the more allergy-aware places to shop in Vancouver. Let's hope it's just a one-time thing - and that nobody with nut allergy eats one of these.

Thanks for clarifying, Gwen. Yes, they do have several allergen-free products on their shelves. I try not to go there too often, though, because I manage to spend at least $200 each time, and that's with me buying most fresh produce and meats elsewhere!

I know what you mean.

Whenever I'm in one of these stores with lots of foods I can eat and skin prods. I can use that I get a little carried away.

Wonderful to find but ... ka-ching.
