Hi everyone,

Just a heads up that registration is open for the 2011 edition of Food Allergy Summer Camp. My son has attended the past 2 years, and I have volunteered there as well. Kids have come from Chicago, Washington, Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan & Texas!

http://www.aaia.ca/en/activity-ywca_all ... r_camp.htm

Most of the kids in attendance had multiple allergies, wheat, milk & egg being the most common. The staff are able to accomodate anyone. Truly. If you've been hoping for this type of experience for your child, look into it! If you have any questions, let me know. We've even handled a child who has daily dosing of a small amount of milk as part of a desensitization study.

I will not be able to attend this year as my son will be attending a school camp instead, and thanks to this camp he now has the confidence to enjoy the experience.

The hardest part is trusting others to be able to feed your child, but Wendy covers all the bases with every family before camp, and food is prepared separately, if necessary, for each child.

I am wondering if anyone knows if the allergy camp typically runs the same week each year. We are considering going to the camp but we are also looking at booking a cottage as well for next summer.
Thanks,
Kate

It moved from the 4th week of July to the 3rd week of July this summer, and I haven't heard when it'll be next year, but I'll ask.

There isn't much in the way of cottages nearby (at least none that I would have wanted to stay at .... I'm from Ontario orginally, and nothing compares to cottage country there), but several families have gone to Jasper to stay while the kids were at camp. Jasper is only a few hours further west, and is my favourite place in Alberta :D SO much to see!
