Hi,

My little one is allergic to dairy, and she's been breastfed so far (She just turned 1). I need to wean at this point, so I'm looking for replacement "milk". I've read that soy formula is recommended, but she absolutely HATES it! I've even tried sneaking an ounce or so in a bottle of breastmilk, but she refuses to drink a drop!!! However, she seems to like soy and rice milk. I know soy milk is richer, so that's what I've been giving her with her meals for the past week or so and she takes it well. For those of you with young ones, is soy milk nutritionnally (sp?) enough? She does eats 3 full well balanced meals and 2 snacks everyday. She's breastfed in the morning and before bed, and I've been pumping 2 bottles for daycare every day, but as I said, I need my body back!!! ;)

TIA!

Hi Kim,

First of all, congrats on bf'g this long on the restricted diet! Having been there myself not so long ago, I know it's tough! I can only imagine how hard it would have been with your return to work and having to pump. Good for you. : )

Ds drinks rice milk and takes a multivitamin drop (Polyvisol, or something like it) every day. I'm not sure how soy and rice milks compare, but his pediatrician suggested he would be getting all that he needs with the vitamin supplement and rice milk.

Just to add one thing -he's also on iron b/c he's anemic, but I don't think this relates to the rice milk, since the anemia showed up before he weaned @21 months.

HTH
